Gary Harrington Chair of the Administrative Council

Gary is the Chair of Wesley’s Administrative Council, Wesley’s policy-making and administrative governing body. While born in Iowa, Gary grew up in Ironwood and attended Ironwood schools and his father had a very busy medical practice in the community. Gary graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN and also from the U.S. Air Force Officer Training School. Gary served 27 years in the Air Force, retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He met his wife Linda when he was stationed in Montgomery, AL and, after many years of military travel, he and Linda moved back to Ironwood in 1999. Gary still travels though, visiting his children’s families in both Michigan and Florida (the latter spot during the winter!).

In addition to his leadership role at Wesley, Gary is also President of the Ironwood Area Historical Society and heads up its genealogy research group. For many years, Gary also organized and led Wesley’s monthly men’s prayer breakfasts, served as the MC for Ironwood Memorial Day ceremonies, and has tried throughout his life to follow the Rev. John Wesley’s (a founder of the Methodist way) personal creed of service: "Do All the Good You Can, By All the Means You Can, In All the Ways You Can, In All the Places You Can, At All the Times You Can, To All the People You Can, As long as Ever …… You Can!"
